There were two Francis and Mary JOHNS families whose children appear in the 1820's records of St. Blazey, Cornwall. I believe that I have untangled them and that the following is the accurate situation.

1 - Francis and Mary (son of Francis JOHNS and Mary ODGERS - married 15 Apr 1786 at Tywardreath)  moved c1819 to Lanlivery

2 - Francis JOHNS and Mary QUINTRELL - married 8 Feb 1821 at Breage and moved c1825 to St. Blazey

1 - Francis and Mary (son of Francis JOHNS and Mary ODGERS - married 15 Apr 1786 at Tywardreath) moved c1819 to Lanlivery

The only connection that this couple seems to have had with St. Blazey is that their 3 year old son John drowned in the river (perhaps while visiting St. Blazey) and was buried at St. Blazey 27 Apr 1823. The child's name was apparently John but was given his father's name by the St. Blazey scribe who was unfamiliar with the family. There are three candidate Francis-Mary marriages in this period, but none of them are for a Mary who shows in the St. Germans baptisms c1791, which is how the widow Mary appears in the 1851 census.

2 - Francis JOHNS and Mary QUINTRELL - married 8 Feb 1821 at Breage and moved c1825 to St. Blazey

Since this family moved to St. Blazey, they have a good number of records there. There was one anomaly, in that their 1823 and 1827 baptisms were at Breage but their 1825 daughter (Grace Rule JOHNS) was baptized at St. Blazey. All of the other children (1829-1842) were baptized at St. Blazey, where the family remained and appears in the censuses.

This Francis JOHNS was baptized 9 Dec 1798 at Gwennap, and Mary QUINTRELL was baptized 17 Aug 1800 at Breage.
