PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Gladys M. Butson, 103, of Platteville, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Our House Assisted Living.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, with the Rev. Karl Goodfellow officiating. Burial will be in Whig Cemetery, rural Platteville. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1905, in Ellenboro Township, Grant County, daughter of Alfred and Winifred (Ashton) Stephens. She married Clair Butson on Dec. 14, 1923, at the United Methodist Church, Platteville; he preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.
Gladys worked as a bookkeeper for the Minneapolis Moline Implement dealership in Platteville for many years.
She was a member of the Whig United Methodist Church.
Gladys enjoyed tending to her gardens and fishing. She always loved to spend time with her family.
Surviving are six daughters, Margaret Nodorft, of Platteville, Carol (Carlos) Schroeder, of Mineral Point, Ada (Jim) Middagh, of Dodgeville, June (Paul) Jentz, of Janesville, Nancy (Edward) Nicholson, of Stillwater, Okla., and Barbara (Gene) Slattery, of Ballwin, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Stephens; a sister-in-law, Georgia Stephens; a sister, Ruth Stephens; two sons-in-law, Albert Nodorft and Herman Oellerich; two grandsons, Gene Nodorft and Marty Nicholson; and three great-grandchildren, Kristine Nodorft, Mary and Benjamin DeGarmo.
