The parentage of Abraham is not proven but it is almost certain that his father was Henry Johnston, the brother of Mary Johnston Burrison. His mother, in that case, would have been Catherine Simmons who was the daughter of Abraham Simmons. Henry Johnston appears to have married Catherine Simmons circa 1820 in Hope Twp (census record for 1821 1 Man, 1 Woman, 1 Girl). In 1824 there were 2 girls, in 1828 there were 3 girls and in 1830 there was also a son (Abraham). In 1832 the record was 1 Man, 1 Woman, 2 Boys, 3 Girls. The Johnston family was in Hope Twp, Durham County in 1852 census (Henry 56, Catherine 50, Abraham 23 & Henry Jr 20). In 1861 they were in Carrick Twp, Bruce County.
