Son James D. Dickson said that they met while Gertrude was living in Montana. Gertrude's family moved to Chicago, and Drew moved to the San Francisco, CA area. They continued to correspond, and finally Gertrude came out to California and they married at Vacaville. They moved to Carmichael, CA about 1925 when Drew had a job working on a building in Sacramento.
