There was unrest in the province at this time, spearheaded by a man
named Robert Gourlay, and the settlers were anxious to confirm their
loyalty and distance themselves from Gourlay and his policies.
-the account of D.M. Lake, dated 1845, from the collection of ledgers
owned by the L&A Historical Society.  There are no names on this
collection of ledgers, so we don't know which merchant or business man
owned them.  The Dr. at the top on the left is not "Doctor".  It's
Debit, and the Cr on the other side is Credit.

court.  I did a complete index many years ago.  Recently, I requested
the original again, and was told that it was withdrawn from circulation
due to its condition.  There was a typewritten copy of it in the
possession of one of the Archivists, which took me a long time to
discover.  Since I can't get at the original, the page numbers are not
of much value.  But at least you can see who was involved in these lawsuits.
