Jan Nevole, husband of Katerina Machotova
Research note by Wesley Johnston, begun 3 Sep 2016, last updated 3 Sep 2016

Background and Overview
Were there two men named Jan NEVOLE of about the same age, living in Čáslav in Central Bohemia in the 1820's and 1830's?
- Jan NEVOLE from Světlá nad Sázavou #129, the records for which are not yet digitized and posted on the Zamrsk archive web site
- Jan Evang. NEVOLE born at Čáslav #25 and baptized (as "Joannes Ev") at Čáslav 23 Jan 1822, son of Jan NEVOLE and Maria LANDSMANN (http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4635/120)
I had initially thought that there was just one, since the subsequent records simply say Jan NEVOLE. But I was puzzled by what might have been going on as I saw later records that showed this supposed one Jan NEVOLE living in Čáslav #30 and Čáslav #39 at the same time.
The title of this research note should really be "Which Jan NEVOLE married Katerina MACHOTOVA, and which children were his and which were those of the other Jan NEVOLE?" It could also be "Were there really two Jan NEVOLEs in houses 30 and 39 in Čáslav in the 1820'2 and later?"
Current Conclusion - Fails to Explain House 30 & 39 Records
At this point, my conclusion is that there really was just one Jan NEVOLE, the one born at Čáslav #25 and that he married at Světlá and possibly had his first child baptized there.  He and Katerina then moved, with his parents, to Čáslav #30. But this conclusion fails to explain the alternation of houses 30 and 39 in the records -- which seems to still point to a second Jan NEVOLE.
The easy part is the first part. It was Jan NEVOLE from Světlá nad Sázavou who married Katerina MACHOTOVA. There is no record at Čáslav of this marriage, which would have been at about 1843 when the marriages at Čáslav were indexed. The marriage most likely was celebrated at Světlá nad Sázavou -- whose records, as noted above, are not yet available online.
This is known from the records of their children. For example, the marriage of their son Jan NEVOLE with Marie FRANCE 27 Oct 1869 at Čáslav #30 or is explcit that his father was Jan NEVOLE from Světlá #129 and his mother was Katerina MACHOTOVA. (The image of this record is on the website of the State Regional Archives in Prague (SOA Praha) at http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4650/239 )
So the main purpose of the rest of this research note is to detail just which Jan NEVOLE the later baptism, marriage and burial records referenced.
Children of Jan NEVOLE
Here are the children that I found and have in my database as children of Jan Evang. NEVOLE and Katerina MACHOTOVA.
Jan NEVOLE (c 1844) - Son of Jan of Světlá, husband of Katerina Machotova, at Čáslav #30
I know of this Jan NEVOLE only through his marriage (cited above). He was 25 at his 1869 marriage at Čáslav #30 or and thus born about 1844. I have not found his baptism in Čáslav, so that I suspect that he was born in Světlá.
Vaclav NEVOLE (1848) - Son of Jan of Čáslav #30, husband of Katerina Machotova
Vaclav NEVOLE was born at Čáslav #30 and baptized (recorded in German as Wenzel) 4 Oct 1848 (http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4638/95#), son of Jan NEVOLE and Katharina MACHOTOVA. Vaclav's father Jan NEVOLE is shown as living at Čáslav #30. The father Jan was the son of Jan NEVOLE (also shown at Čáslav #30) and Maria LANDSMANN. This is the earliest record I have found that places Jan NEVOLE and Katerina MACHOTOVA at Čáslav #30. It shoes Katarina's father Martin MACHOTA (not sure that this is the right ending of the surname) living at Světlá #27 so that the connection to Světlá #129 is still clearly visible, but it is no longer visible in the father's information.
Josef NEVOLE (1850) - Son of Jan of Čáslav #30, husband of Katerina Machotova
Josef NEVOLE was my 2nd great grandfather. His paternal information is the same as for Vaclav: his father and his father's parents are all shown at Čáslav #30.
Antonin Padua NEVOLE (1852) - Son of Jan of Čáslav #30, husband of Katerina Machotova
Antonin Padua NEVOLE (1852-1916)'s father and his father's parents are all shown at Čáslav #30.
Jan's brother Antonin's sons Antonin Jan & Antonin NEVOLE (1854 & 1856) at Čáslav #30
There is another important record at this point. Jan's brother Antonin's son Antonin Jan NEVOLE was born 15 May at Čáslav #30 pm and baptized the next day ( http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4639/71 ). And in the record Jan and Antonin's parents, Jan NEVOLE and Maria LANDSMANN, are shown at Čáslav #31 so that it is not clear whether the younger Jan NEVOLE and Katerina MACHOTOVA were still at house 30 or not. Antonin was born in 1829, and if Jan is Jan Evan., then he was born in 1822, so that Jan was the older brother.
Antonin Jan NEVOLE died as an infant in 1855. So his parents named their next son Antonin NEVOLE. He was born 15 Aug 1856 at Čáslav #30 p and baptized 21 August. As with his brother, his father's parents, , Jan NEVOLE and Maria LANDSMANN, are shown at Čáslav #31.
I include these other Antonins, since it is important to know which Antonin NEVOLE later married Marie JELINEK and was the father of Anna NEVOLE who came to Chicago and married John HUML. Anna's birth and baptism in 1879 (http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4643/53) is explicit that her father Antonin NEVOLE was the son of Jan NEVOLE and Katerina MACHOTOVA. And their only son named Antonin was Antonin Padua NEVOLE.
Frantisek NEVOLE (c 1856) - Possibly at Světlá
Frantisek NEVOLE is known only through the 10 Nov 1870 stillbirth of his unnamed son. Frantisek is shown as the son of Jan and Katerina (who are then living separately). I suspect that Frantisek was born at Světlá.
Ferdinand NEVOLE (1859) - Son of Jan of Čáslav #30, husband of Katerina Machotova
Ferdinand NEVOLE's father and his father's parents are all shown at Čáslav #30. So they have all returned to house 30.
Karel Mikolas NEVOLE (1864) - Son of Jan of Čáslav #30, husband of Katerina Machotova
Karel Mikolas NEVOLE was born at Čáslav #31, but his father's parents are all shown at Čáslav #30.

Jan Evang. NEVOLE's Own Records
As noted above, Jan Evang. NEVOLE was born and baptized at Čáslav #30 in 1822. Records of his grandchildren show him living separately from Katerina in 1876 and 1880. So it appears that the couple separated, which would account for Jan living at different recurring places.
He died 5 April 1899 at Čáslav #39 p. (http://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/4685/32) And his birth date on his death record matches the birthdate of Jan Evang. NEVOLE.
