William D. VanderSlice, 86, of New Era, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at home. He was born Feb. 20, 1918 in New Era, the son of John and Jeanette (VanWyke) VanderSlice.
He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. Mr. VanderSlice married Johanna Pranger June 13, 1947.
He was a life resident of New Era and a fruit farmer. He was a member of New Era Reformed Church and had served as an elder and deacon in the church.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna; children, Linda (David) Plumhoff of St. Joseph, Mich. and Gordon (Mary Jo) VanderSlice of New Era; grandchildren, Aaron Plumhoff, Wendy (Michael) Sterk, Shari Plumhoff, Chris (Tonya) VanderSlice, Amy (Case) McCalla and Julie VanderSlice; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Elizabeth VanderSlice and Emily and Megan McCalla; sister, Lorraine Taylor of New Era. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Spooner, Beatrice Frens and Evelyn VanderSlice.
The funeral service for Mr. VanderSlice was Monday, 2 p.m., Nov.15 at New Era Reformed Church with Pastor Scott VanArendonk officiating. Interment was in New Era Cemetery. You may leave a message of condolence for the family at www.harrisfhome.com. Arrangements by Harris Funeral Home, Shelby.
