Context
The 25 July 1856 list of new members of the First Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan is online at https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/60766/images/43105_3421606187_0103-00030
Two clusters place dE FREL family members with Boezel-Bogaerts family members. The aterisked ones are my known relatives, with all of the BOEZELs as direct ancestors.
Cluster 1
* Pieternella BOGAERTS - from Zevenbergen Nederland 1854
Teunis dE FREL - from Klundert N:Brabant Nederland 1854
Adriana dE FREL geb. SULKERS - from Klundert N:Brabant Nederland 1854
* Sijntje BOGAARTS - from Zevenbergen Nederland 1854
Cluster 2
* Albert BOEZEL - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
* Geredina BOEZEL, geb BOGAERTS - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
* Jan BOEZEL - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
Jakob dE FREL - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
Alida dE FREL - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
Cornelis dE FREL - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
Johanna dE FREL geb PLOEG - from Klundert Noordbrabant 1854
So, the question is:
How is the de Frel family was connected to our family, since I have never heard of the de Frel family, even though they were from the same place (Klundert) and apparently made the same voyage to America with and joined the same church in Holland, Michigan, as our family?
Netherlands Records
The 1850-1862 Bevolkingsregister (Population Register) for house 187b Oostervoorstraat in Klundert is on the West Brabant Archive as Klundert "Bevolkingsregister 1850-1862 - 01 Wijk A, Wijk B, Wijk C, Wijk D" with inventory number 3129 as image 84 of 384. It shows five people, all crossed out, but numbered in two separate groups. The first group is the Boezel family. The second group has the same two surnames as the maiden names of the de Frel wives in the Holland First Reformed Chuch member list. So there is a definite overlap in Klundert, just as there is in Holland, Michigan.
1* - BOEZEL, Albert - born 1806 IJselmonde, Zuid-Holland - married - religion Christelijk Afgescheiden (Christian Separated) - occupation Winkelier (Shop Keeper) - left for New Holland, Michigan, North America 12 April 1854
2* - BOGAERTS, Gerdina - born 1802 Zevenbergen, Noord Brabant - married - religion Christelijk Afgescheiden (Christian Separated) - ooccupation Geen (None) - left for New Holland, Michigan, North America 12 April 1854
3* - BOEZEL, Jan - born 1841 Klundert, Noord-Brabant - unmarried - religion Christelijk Afgescheiden (Christian Separated) - occupation 0 - left for New Holland, Michigan, North America 12 April 1854
1 - PLOEG, Johannes Jacobus - born 1833 Klundert, Noordbrabant - married - religion Ned Hervormde (Dutch Reformed) - occupation Laborer
2 - SULKERS, Pieternella - born 1829 Klundert, Noordbrabant - married - religion Ned Hervormde (Dutch Reformed) - occupation Laborer
Johnnes Jacobus Ploeg - Pieternella Sulkers
It is not clear just what the status of the PLOEG-SULKERS couple was. Normally, their presence with new numbers would mean that they occupied the house after the prior family had left, as opposed to living there at the same time. While all five are crossed out, there is no mention of the PLOEG-SULKERS couple in the death/departure column so that it is not clear why they are crossed out.
Michigan Records
The PLOEG-SULERS couple do not appear in the Holland First Reformed Church records. As noted above, Johanna PLOEG was the wife of Cornelis dE FREL, and Adriana SULKERS was the wife of Teunis dE FREL. There are no other SULKERS families in the Holland First Reformed Church records, but there are several families with PLOEG members:
