The ship building Butsons of Bodinnick, Fowey, Mevagissey and Polruan have extensive descendants, including two lines in Canada, one of which were boat builders at Midland-Penatanguishine, Ontario. Their house at Bodinnick later (1925) became the home of the family of Daphne du Maurier, who wrote the first of her novels there. They also ran the Ferry Inn, which like the house was at the landing of the ferry from Fowey.

The couple who brought their family to Bodinnick were Nicholas Butson (1779-1844) and Ann Hunkin.
